The Argument of Design
The argument for design may be the most universally used argument for God today. This is in part due to the fact that Scripture itself testifies to the design of the universe being the reason why 'no man is without excuse' [Romans 1]. It is because of the evidence that surrounds mankind, every day, all day.
The universe displays a staggering amount of intelligibility, both within the things we observe and in the way these things relate to others outside themselves. It is normal in nature for many different beings to work together to produce the same valuable end—for example, the organs in the bodywork for our life and health.
Either this intelligible order is the product of chance or of intelligent design.
Not by chance.
Therefore the universe is the product of intelligent design.
Design comes only from a mind, a designer.
Therefore the universe is the product of an intelligent Designer.
The first point is almost unrefutable my anyone as we all have the proof around us and within ourselves to show intelligibility. This follows as we have nothing known to mankind that is intelligible of use and has come from a non-intelligent source.
The major objections come at around premise 3 where unbelievers will state, as Richard Dawkins does, that we are "randomly assorted particles, dancing to our DNA". I want to express this very briefly, that the leading atheist wants us to believe that his watch is designed by intelligence but a complex being as a human is by chance. Think about how absurd that is.
For example,
the human alpha-globin molecule, a component of hemoglobin that performs a key oxygen transfer function, is a protein chain based on a sequence of 141 amino acids. There are 20 different amino acids common in living systems, so the number of potential chains of length 141 is 20141, which is roughly 10183 (i.e., a one followed by 183 zeroes). this figure is so enormous that even after billions of years of random molecular trials, no human alpha-globin protein molecule would ever appear "at random."
At best, an atheist using the abiogenesis method can reduce the probability to 10 to the 40th power. The odds are still not remotely in the favor of chance. If we don't see a single particle come into existence on its own, randomly or by chance, we cannot assume otherwise for the remainder of the universe.
